Intensive In-Home team help Gina build coping skills for her anxiety

Gina loves art & crafts and jewelry making; she aspires to become a nurse one day. Gina’s mother and father separated about two years ago during the pandemic. This resulted in both parents remaining in the home throughout the beginning of their separation. Gina took on a parenting role to her sisters during this time. She struggled to cope with the separation and changes in her family. Gina began to self-harm and experienced panic attacks at school. She was trying to appear okay and putting pressure on herself to perform well. She was diagnosed with depression and anxiety by a school-based clinician.

Gina was referred to Thompson’s Intensive In-Home (IIH) program due to the severity of her depression and anxiety and the impact in both the home and school setting. Initially, Gina needed to take frequent breaks from therapy sessions due to a stomachache or headache. Since starting therapy, she has learned various coping skills to use when she feels anxious and built up her distress tolerance to handle stressful situations and still remain calm. Both Gina and her family report significantly decreased symptoms and she has not self-harmed for several months.
