Friends of the Children help Theo rebuild his self confidence

Theo loves all things animals like visiting the aquarium and wildlife parks. He also enjoys art projects. Theo and his younger brother lived with their mother until being left unattended and experiencing a traumatic, gun-related incident that resulted in their father’s incarceration. To keep the boys together, their grandmother stepped forward to assume custody. Theo maintains regular contact with his father via letters and visits. Theo is very shy and suffers from low self-confidence. He frequently sets him impossible standards to meet and is self-critical as a result.

Theo is part of the Friends of the Children – Charlotte program and his mentor works hard to establish a more positive mindset. His mentor regularly reminds Theo of the achievements he makes to help him build a growth mindset and increase his self-confidence. Theo also receives additional school-based services to support his emotional needs. He is now above grade-level in both English and Math, and is a well-liked boy at school by both peers and teachers. He is growing in confidence and believing in himself that he can do difficult things.

‘We are so thankful Theo is in this program, we have seen such positive changes in his confidence.’ ~ Theo’s grandmother & dad
