Friends of the Children – Charlotte support Henry and his dad in their new life together

Henry loves a challenge, he is determined and competitive. He is self-motivated to accomplish anything he sets his mind to. Henry has a younger and older sister and all three youth were removed from his mother’s custody. Henry moved in with his father, but their living situation has not been stable as they moved frequently between hotels and apartments. Henry also struggles with aggressive behaviors and was removed from his home school due to his behavior disrupting classes. He currently has over an hour commute to his alternative school, where he does not feel challenged academically.

Henry is part of the Friends of the Children – Charlotte program and has been supported throughout all of this adversity. Focusing heavily to build a growth mindset helped Henry look at life through a positive lens. He adjusted quickly to life with his father and shows perseverance and grit to put his best foot forward each day. The 2-Generational model provided Henry and his father with therapy, food, and parenting classes to help them adjust to their new situation and create positive memories together. Increasing Henry’s coping skills and reducing his self doubt helped him build a sense of belonging.
