Residential Care Specialist (FT & PRN): St. Peter’s Lane Campus - Matthews, NC

Thompson Child & Family Focus, located in the Charlotte/Matthews area, has an opening for the Residential Care Specialist position in 2 different residential treatment programs.

PRTF (Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility): This position provides 24 hour direct care to children ages 6 - 13 in the residential treatment program by providing a safe therapeutic home setting in a positive, consistent and structured environment. This includes mental health support and documentation based on service goals and plans for each client. This position plans, provides and supervises the daily activities of the clients to build self-esteem and appropriate peer interaction for each child. This position is responsible for building a safe and positive relationship with each child using basic principles of reality therapy without punitive approaches while providing engaging, nurturing structure. This individual must have the ability to appropriately intervene to meet the needs of the child and their family members gain the skills and confidence to address issues and problems as they take place.

Thompson Connect: Individuals in this program work with adolescent females ages 12 - 17 in a short-term residential treatment program. This position will provide guidance, support and mentoring to adolescent females including assisting with transitional living skills and daily functioning.  This person must have the ability to appropriately intervene to meet the needs of the adolescents and their collaterals to gain the skills and confidence to address issues and problems as they take place. This position is responsible for teaching and modeling independent living skills as it relates to the adolescent population and for teaching and modeling healthy and safe relationships.

Physical Requirements: Will frequently perform a wide variety of physical tasks such as standing, walking, running, stooping, bending, climbing stairs and lifting of individuals, which requires strength, coordination, endurance, and agility.  Persons with any medical problems such as joint problems, obesity, arthritis or cardiopulmonary conditions, where it would be unwise or not possible to engage in moderate physical exertion should not be considered.

Position requires driving agency vehicle as well as transporting clients. A valid NC driver’s license, at least 3 years of driving with a driver’s license and clean driving record are required. Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field preferred. Friends of the Children Program Director:  St. Peter’s Lane Campus - Matthews, NC

Thompson Child & Family Focus is seeking a passionate, committed leader to launch and lead a new Friends of the Children program in the Matthews/Charlotte area.  The Friends of the Children model is designed to break the cycle of generational poverty for children who are most vulnerable by providing Professional Mentors to thousands of youth across the country. 

The Program Director will oversee and manage the Friends of the Children program model including designing, coordinating, implementing and sustaining the program.  This position is also responsible for: supervising, guiding, developing and evaluating the efforts of all Professional Mentors.  The Program Director will also be responsible for coordinating, implementing and sustaining the child identification and selection process, and for the overall cultivation and maintenance of relationships with schools, families and key community members.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Participate in strategic planning and budgeting, and making, implementing, and upholding decisions or policies related to the operations of the program.
  • Supervise, inspire, develop and evaluate efforts of the Professional Mentors.  Ensure that they have resources necessary to perform their jobs, act as team facilitator and organizational motivator, and facilitate effective communication in all directions.   
  • Manage the performance of Professional Mentors, including completing and conducting annual performance appraisals.  Hold Friends accountable for work performance: adequacy of time spent with children, quality and diversity of activities with children, and administrative/reporting responsibilities.   
  • Work with the national program staff and TCFF Training staff to design and implement initial Professional Mentor training, as well as ongoing training and other required performance improvement activities. 
  • Oversee the recruiting, selection and hiring of new Professional Mentors as required.
  • Ensure compliance with and accountability to program’s policies, procedures and practices. Contribute to the development of any of these as required. 

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; organizational and time management, delegation and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to cultivate and sustain relationships and work effectively with a wide variety of constituencies, including staff, program children, parents, schools, etc.
  • Ability to research, analyze data, design/develop, propose, implement and sustain programming.
  • Knowledge of child development and child issues, particularly those most relevant to the program’s youth.

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field, Master’s degree preferred. Seven to ten years of experience working with child-related programs in progressively responsible roles. Three to five years in leadership or management role with significant supervisory duties and responsibilities.  Valid NC driver’s license and clean driving record required. The Friends of the Children model is designed to break the cycle of generational poverty for children who are most vulnerable by providing Professional Mentors to thousands of youth across the country. 

The Professional Mentor will work with eight children and will:

Director of Donor Engagement:  St. Peter’s Lane Campus - Matthews, NC

The Director of Donor Engagement will be responsible for securing funds for Thompson Child & Family Focus by managing a group of assigned, qualified donors assuring as many as possible are retained as continuing donors to the Agency and are upgraded in their giving and involvement including planned and legacy gifts. Their gifts focus will be consistent with voluntary income goals of the Agency and primarily focused on solicitation of gifts of at least $10,000.

Specific Job Details: Donor Cultivation, Solicitation & Stewardship

  • Manage a portfolio of 100-125 major gift donors and prospective donors, cultivating and facilitating strong, ongoing relationships with individuals who support Thompson’s mission.
  • In partnership with Development team members, identify current donors & prospective donors capable of making major gifts and design cultivation strategies to engage them.
  • Create individual goals for each person in his or her portfolio based on the donor's history of giving and the agency's knowledge of that donor's potential.
  • Create and execute a plan for each donor that will serve as a foundational communication and marketing plan for each person in the portfolio so individuals in the portfolio are retained and upgraded.
  • Design and implement effective solicitation strategies, managing leadership prospect relationships to enhance first-time, continued or increased monetary support, with oversight by the Chief Development Officer.
  • Work with appropriate staff to secure needed project information, including budgets, to create offers, proposals and asks that will be used to secure gifts.
  • Actively engage and support a range of individuals including those on Thompson’s Executive Team, Board of Trustees, Resource Development staff and other key individuals to aid in major/planned giving cultivation and solicitation activity.
  • Travel as needed for personal contact with prospective and current donors.
  • Document all contacts in Raiser’s Edge database and prepare appropriate follow-up.
  • Create monthly reports as required by management that accurately reflect portfolio activity and performance.

Required Education and Skills:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • CFRE and/or other non-profit fundraising certifications a plus, but not required.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in non-profit development with at least two of those years in the major gifts area, cultivating gifts of $10,000 or more and/or five years of outside sales experience with high performing organizations.
  • Personal passion and commitment to mission and programs for underserved children.
  • Sound analytical skills and above average computer knowledge; Raiser’s Edge & Research Point highly preferred.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a clear, persuasive and effective manner.
  • Ability to work as a partner with other team members.

Program Supervisor:  St. Peter’s Lane Campus - Matthews, NC

Program Supervisor shall oversee the daily operations of the residential attachment program, cottage activities and care of clients.  Supervisor shall assist in coordination of care, staffing patterns, budgets, and environments that support the treatment philosophy.  Duties include supervising mentors and shift leaders, as well as working as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide the best care possible for the children and families in the program.  Master’s Degree in a human services field with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a child mental health setting preferred.
